cockroach girl in thailand

Mood: well-fed
ThemeSong: I'll be home for Christmas...
Watchawearing: new green combat trousers i bought last night from night market

It's Christmas eve and it's our third day in Bangkok. Arrived on the 22nd despite departure problems (Chev and Josh are under 18 so apparently some DSWS paperwork was needed but we got through it thanks to Mama's super-charm skills) and checked in at KT Rest House. The taxi (taxi-meter here, which I suppose is comparable to a centi-meter)was really nice, a new toyota van painted BRIGHT PINK AND BLUE (v. cheerful) and we were all at awe at the generally good traffic, and lack of pollution, and lack of honking everywhere, and the fact that Bangkok looks so much better than Manila... *Sigh*

Anyway, on our first day we went to Siam Paragon, a new mall and apparently the largest in Asia. So posh... saw a really cute Washbourne guitar for a pretty good price. I could have gotten it, given that I wouldn't get anything else during the duration of our trip. Went to a big-ass aquarium INSIDE THE MALL, saw sharks, mantas, jellyfish (my fave animals) and some really cute otters and seals. The otter was scratching itself on this log, and it was really funny. When it was rubbing its back against some faux-rocks, you could almost hear the dodgy funk music playing in the background, and I could imagine Leo doing his weird dance especially reserved for Franz right beside that otter. Hahaha... And the seals were so cute and chubby and mejo pa-epal. Had dinner at the mall, monster food court. So yummy! Oh, we took the subway and skytrain to get to the mall. The trains are so cool, the subway has this token you use instead of a card, we looked like a bunch from the boondocks when we first went on, had no idea how to use them. The skytrain's tickets were pretty standard, but again, the trains and stations were so clean! The subway had a slight eau de wee though, but that may be because it was underground after all, so I assume near the sewage system.

Second day we went to the floating market (too touristy for me) and then to the Elephant Park to see the Elephant show. The magic show in the first part wasn't too bad actually, given the really bad costumes and acting. The Elephants were so cute!!! They were such professionals. Okay, okay. There were the inevitable poo moments, but they were just amazing anyway. Here's a stolen shot of them playing footie.

Afterwards we went to the King's Rose Garden which ironically didn't have many roses. They did have a Thai cultural show of sorts. The Thai culture (from what I got from the show) has a lot in common with the Pinoy. They even have a tinikling-like dance. *Sigh again*
In the evening we went to the Night Market. The prices were okay, but was a bit disappointed. It was like one huge tiangge and I was expecting more of a wag-wag place. Bought lots of pasalubong and so it wasn't so bad.

Third day, today, we went to see the King's palace. There was this epic mural that ran around the whole palace and it was so cute because there were some mini-stories you could pick out. For example there was the turtle in the hare, several funny mini-scenes (think couples making out behind the bushes and lechers peeping at girls bathing), just really funny. Saw the jade Buddha. Interesting and sad at the same time. We saw lots of little Buddhas in the museum, I really liked the smaller Buddhas because you could see the fine detail especially on those (some Buddhas were as tall as a thumbnail.)

And we've been food tripping basically. Ate street food a while ago. We were feeling adventurous. I had to go and get food at a third place (the first place's food was uber-spicy and the tom yam from the second place was made with innards so YUCK!) and it just made me realize even more how hard it must be to live somewhere you don't speak the lang. At least in Fance I would still be able to communicate even a little bit. But on the whole we're having fun. :D

late birthday present

Exactly one month after my 21st bithday, Allen gave me a late (but still welcome) greeting card with a coded message, giving clues on what she got me for my birthday. Solving it, I had a tough time because I was thinking too much because I solved the "puzzle" and came out with B1233 and I thought it meant a word (bantu tree? like a bansai tree?) and it turned out she got me a locker. Kinda complicated to explain if you're not from Ateneo. But B1233 is a locker number. *Grin!*

What an unexpected present. I love suprises!!! :D

It was Miko's birthday yesterday. He was my crush in grade school from grades 2 to 5, so my crush for the longest time, even longer than Nasim... Heheh. I wont forget his birthday because he's exactly one month younger than me and I shall never again like a younger guy.

I'm just bored and rambling... Sigh...
